Angry villagers cut off electricity due to the death of a lineman


Kanpur, 23 June (HS). A lineman in Bidhanu town, who was repairing a fault, fell from a pole and got seriously injured. Later, he died during treatment at Hallet Hospital. Angry villagers surrounded the Bidhanu sub-station on Sunday and stopped the power supply of the entire area due to the death of the lineman. The villagers demanded compensation and the officials pacified them by assuring compensation. During this, the villagers got it written in writing from the officials.

32-year-old Shivpratap alias Chhotu, a resident of Jamu village, was a contract lineman at the sub-centre of Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam in Bidhanu. Due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds on Saturday evening, faults occurred at many places. While repairing the fault, he fell from the pole and got seriously injured and was immediately rushed to Hallet Hospital where he died during treatment. The villagers were enraged at the death of the lineman and on Sunday they reached the electricity sub-station and started protesting demanding compensation. During this, the villagers stopped the power supply of the entire area. There was also a demand to call senior officials to the spot for compensation. After this, XEN and JE reached the spot and assured compensation, yet the villagers wanted to get it written in writing from the officials. The officials got upset due to the continuous power disruption in the area and finally, after reaching Bidhanu police station, the officials assured the villagers of compensation in writing and sent them back home.
