Chitrakoot, June 16 (HS). Ganga Dussehra is being celebrated with great pomp in the world famous mythological pilgrimage Chitrakoot. Lakhs of devotees who reached Chitrakoot's Ram Ghat from all over the country, after taking a holy dip in the purifying Mandakini (Ganga) river, which descended due to the penance of Mata Sati Anusuiya, are doing the parikrama of Kamadgiri mountain after visiting and worshipping Lord Shri Kamatnath, who fulfills the wishes.
Mahant Divya Jeevan Das Maharaj of Bharat Mandir Chitrakoot, while explaining the importance of Ganga Dussehra festival, said that Ganga Avtaran Divas is celebrated with great reverence and devotion in India. He said that it is believed that on this day Mother Ganga descended from Devlok to earth. Worshipping Goddess Ganga on this day brings eternal fruits. In the Mandakini Ganga of Chitrakoot, lakhs of devotees from all over the country are taking a holy dip early in the morning and gaining the benefits of virtue.
Mahant Madan Gopal Das Maharaj of Kamadgiri main gate and priest of Kamatnath temple Bharat Sharan Das Maharaj say that Chitrakoot has been the place of meditation of many sages like Atri and other saints along with the place of resolution of Lord Shri Ram. Mandakini Ganga was brought to Chitrakoot by the power of meditation of Mata Sati Anusuiya to quench the thirst of saints. On the day of Ganga Dussehra, lakhs of devotees reach Chitrakoot and after taking bath in the purifying mother Mandakini, they worship Lord Kamatnath Ji. This fulfills all their wishes.
Due to the possibility of lakhs of devotees coming to Chitrakoot on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, District Magistrate Abhishek Anand and Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh have made tight security arrangements in the fair area. Divers have been deployed to prevent incidents of drowning of devotees while bathing in Mandakini at Ram Ghat. In view of the scorching heat, other necessary arrangements have been made in the fair area along with drinking water etc.
