Former BSP MLC Haji Iqbal's property worth Rs 4000 crore seized

Saharanpur, June 15 (HS). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a major action against Uttar Pradesh's notorious mining mafia and former BSP MLC Haji Mohammad Iqbal and has seized an illegally built university. Haji Iqbal is currently absconding and is hiding in Dubai.

Apart from illegal mining, Haji Iqbal has many serious charges against him including money laundering. Many agencies of the country are investigating him. The building and land of his Global University, which has been seized by the Enforcement Directorate, is worth about Rs 4,440 crore. Mohammad Iqbal has four sons. Many cases are registered against his sons and brother and they are in jail.

According to the agency, the money laundering case investigation agency had issued a confiscation order. After this, 121 acres of land and the building of Glocal University have been seized. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said in a statement that these properties are registered in the name of Abdul Wahid Educational and Charitable Trust. These were controlled by Mohammad Iqbal and his family members.

Haji Iqbal has amassed wealth worth thousands of crores of rupees through mining business. He has had influence in every government of the state. Haji Iqbal bought about 121 acres of land in Mirzapur area by intimidating people and built a luxurious university on it. This university has been in controversy since the beginning, because it has been built illegally by occupying the flowing rivers.

It is noteworthy that Haji Iqbal lost the election in 2017. Meanwhile, the government also noticed his misdeeds. After this, the noose started tightening on Haji Iqbal, his younger brother Mahmud Ali and Haji Iqbal's four sons, relatives and associates. Haji Iqbal, his associates and family members are accused of illegal mining, money laundering, land grabbing by intimidation as well as rape.

CBI and ED have also registered several cases against Haji Iqbal in their investigation. Haji Iqbal and his associates' property worth billions of rupees has been confiscated from UP to Uttarakhand. His houses have been demolished with bulldozers. Despite this, he did not appear in the court.

A few months ago, a photo of Haji Iqbal with a big industrialist from the Middle East went viral. Later, Haji Iqbal requested his lawyer to appear in court through video conferencing. Haji Iqbal appears in court while sitting abroad.
