Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni went viral on the Internet in December last year. Now after the #Melody trend, they have posed for a new selfie at the G7 summit. Both the leaders are happy and smiling while posing for the selfie. This was the second selfie shared by Meloni on her official X handle from the COP28 summit in 2023 with the hashtag Melody. Meloni shared a video in which the Italian Prime Minister can be heard saying, “Namaste from the Melody team.”
The friendship of the two Prime Ministers was captured on camera. When Meloni welcomed PM Modi, both the leaders greeted each other. After talking for a while, both the leaders smiled. This was PM Modi's fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, while India had participated in ten summits before this. Italy holds the presidency of the G7, a group of seven major economies including the European Union as well as Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Britain and the US.
On Friday, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Meloni and discussed defence and security cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs said that “the two sides discussed bilateral defence and security cooperation and expressed hope to further enhance defence industrial cooperation.” They welcomed the visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and the training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year, the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement.
