Five people including two children died in fire in residential building | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Ghaziabad: Five people were killed and two injured in a fire that broke out in a residential building here, police said on Thursday.

It is suspected that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

A fire was reported in a building in Behta Hajipur under Loni Border police station area on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ankur Vihar Bhaskar Verma told PTI that police personnel and firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued a woman and a child from the building.

Police said that according to preliminary investigation, the fire was caused by a short circuit.

Ghaziabad Additional Police Commissioner Dinesh Kumar P said the fire broke out on the ground floor of the building and quickly spread to the first and second floors, trapping the residents.

He said that the fire spread due to the foam kept in the house. Five bodies have been recovered from the building.

The deceased have been identified as Saiful Rehman (35), his wife Nazira (32), daughters Isra (7), Faiz (7 months) and Farheen alias Parveen (25), police said.

The injured Arsh (10) and Uzma (25) were admitted to Delhi's GTB hospital, he said. Arsh was later discharged.
