Varanasi, 04 June (HS). Indi alliance candidate from Varanasi parliamentary seat in Lok Sabha elections and state Congress president Ajay Rai happily accepted defeat after vote counting on Tuesday. Ajay Rai, who became a mountain in the way of BJP candidate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's victory with a huge margin, said that this is my moral victory against the top citadel of power.
He said that I will remain indebted till my last breath to the immense support that the great people of Kashi have blessed me with in spite of the intimidation of power and investment of huge money power. My life will always be dedicated to the service of Kashi.
He said that the way Kashi gave me massive public support by turning my arrogant slogan of crossing 10 lakhs upside down is a victory even in my defeat. I and my colleagues from the Indy alliance parties were unarmed and on foot in this democratic war. On the other side was the glamour of power and a flood of resources. An army ranging from ministers to governors was going door to door in Kashi against me. Despite a huge investment of money and power, the people of Kashi made the top power leader bite the dust in achieving a narrow victory. Along with the brave workers of Indy parties, the people of Varanasi fought my election considering me as Ajay Rai. I am indebted to their trust and will stand with them in every happiness and sorrow.
He said that we are the humble children of Maa Ganga and in this election, Maa Ganga's signal is clear that Kashi will not tolerate politics against the honor and interests of Kashi. As the President of Uttar Pradesh Congress, I am overwhelmed by the victory of Congress and SP in Uttar Pradesh and the huge success of the Indy alliance and am heartily grateful to the people of the state. The people of Uttar Pradesh proved that Rahul Gandhi, who did an unprecedented Parikrama of Mother India, is a much bigger mass leader than Narendra Modi by making him win by four lakh votes and making him lose by less than one and a half lakh votes despite huge expenditure. BJP's defeat in Ayodhya proved that the political use of religious sentiments is unacceptable to democracy.
