Russia Ukraine War: The leaders of France and Germany said Ukraine should be allowed to strike military sites inside Russia from which missiles are being fired at Ukrainian territory, but not elsewhere. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that NATO member states were playing with fire by proposing to allow Ukraine to use Western-supplied weapons to attack inside Russia. He said this could trigger a global conflict.
Ukraine should be allowed to destroy those military sites inside Russia
“We support Ukraine and we don't want tensions and that hasn't changed,” French President Emmanuel Macron said at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Meseberg, Germany. “We believe Ukraine should be allowed to destroy the military sites inside Russia from where the missiles are fired. The military sites from which Ukraine is attacked. But we must not allow Ukraine to attack other targets and civilian or military sites in Russia.”
I agree with Macron
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, I agree with Macron. He said Ukraine is allowed to defend itself as long as it respects the conditions imposed by the countries supplying it with arms, including the US, and international law. Ukraine has full capacity under international law to do what it is doing. This should be stated clearly. I find it strange when some people argue that Ukraine should not be allowed to defend itself and take appropriate action.
The deadliest war in Europe since World War II
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022, is the deadliest war in Europe since World War II. Western countries believe Putin is increasing the risk of a global war, while Western leaders are trying to reduce it. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said alliance members should allow Ukraine to attack inside Russia with Western weapons. His idea has been supported by some European members of the transatlantic alliance but there has been no response from the United States.
There is some opposition to the idea in Germany, as it is likely to spark wider conflict in the upcoming local and state elections in the eastern part of the country. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has ruled out providing Ukraine with long-range Torus missiles that could potentially reach Moscow.
