Nishant in pre-quarterfinals, beats Otgonbaatar in two minutes | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

New Delhi, May 29 (HS). Indian boxer Nishant Dev on Tuesday entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 71kg category at the second Boxing World Qualifier being held in Bangkok, Thailand for the Paris Olympics.

He defeated Mongolian boxer Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdeneto in just two minutes in the second round. At the same time, Abhinash Jamwal had to face defeat at the hands of Jose Manuel Viafara Fori in the 63.5 kg category.

Nishant Dev forced a standing count within the first minute with a flurry of punches against Otgonbaatar. A combination of a jab and cross hook resulted in another standing count and the referee stopped the contest with 58 seconds left to play in Round 1.

Earlier, Jamwal made a brave comeback after a close loss in the first round against Colombia's Viafara Fori.

He dominated the third and final round and tied the scores with all five judges. As per the rules, the judges were asked to evaluate the performance again and decide the winner; then after a long discussion, everyone voted in favour of Fori and declared the Colombian boxer the winner by 5:0.
