10 killed, several missing in Mizoram stone mine collapse; rescue operation halted due to heavy rains


AizawlMizoram: Ten people were killed and several others are missing after a stone quarry collapsed during incessant rains in Aizawl district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

He said the incident took place around 6 am in the area between Meltham and Hlimen on the southern outskirts of Aizawl city. A police officer said 10 bodies have been recovered, while many others are still buried under the debris.

Rescue work affected due to rain

He said that rescue work is being affected due to heavy rains. Officials said that due to rain, landslides occurred at many places in the state. Aizawl is cut off from the rest of the country due to a landslide on National Highway 6 in Hunter.

Schools will remain closed

Apart from this, many interstate highways have also been affected due to landslides. All schools have been closed due to rain and government employees have been asked to work from home except those providing essential services.

10 people have died due to the collapse of a stone quarry on the outskirts of Aizawl due to incessant rains. Police personnel are engaged in rescue work. The water level of the rivers is also rising and many people living on the banks of the rivers have been evacuated.
