Hamirpur, May 25 (HS). Fourteen general elections were held in Bundelkhand's Hamirpur-Mahoba parliamentary seat in the last 57 years but no one could score a hat-trick on this seat. This time, the sitting MP who scored a hat-trick for BJP is in the fray on this seat, who can break the record of Congress if there is more than 60 percent voting.
Fourteen general elections were held in Hamirpur-Mahoba-Tindwari Lok Sabha seat in 57 years but two leaders from here had to sweat to score a hat-trick on this seat. In the first Lok Sabha election in 1952, ML Dwivedi was the leader who became MP for the first time in the Congress wave. He got 32.7 percent votes. The people of the parliamentary constituency trusted his honesty and simple nature for three consecutive times. He remained MP from this seat for three consecutive times till 1962. However, in 1957 he got only 28.6 percent votes, while the third time he got 47.99 percent votes.
According to Baburam Prakash Tripathi, an elderly social worker of the parliamentary constituency, ML Dwivedi contested for the fourth time in the 1967 Lok Sabha elections. He wanted to create a record by running Vijay Rath for the fourth time on this seat, but Swami Brahmanand Maharaj of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Jansangh Party defeated him badly. He got 31 percent votes, while Swami Brahmanand Maharaj, the candidate of the Jansangh Party, got the highest number of votes, more than 54 percent. After losing the election for the fourth time on the parliamentary constituency seat, a veteran leader like ML Dwivedi retired from politics.
Brahmanand was elected MP twice in the 17th general election held in 57 years
Two leaders became MPs for two consecutive terms from Hamirpur-Mahoba parliamentary seat but both of them could not win the seat for the third consecutive time. Swami Brahmanand Maharaj became MP for the first time in 1967 on Jansangh ticket by getting more than 54% votes in Lok Sabha elections. He became MP again in 1971 Lok Sabha elections but in 1977 general election Swami Brahmanand could not score a hattrick on this seat. After this he also retired from politics. Similarly Gangacharan Rajput became MP in 1996 general election. He became MP for the second consecutive term in 1998 also but in 1999 election Gangacharan could not score a hattrick on this seat. However he became MP thrice.
Pushpendra Singh Chandel has also made lotus bloom twice in a row
Pushpendra Singh Chandel became MP for the first time in the 2014 Lok Sabha election in the Modi wave from Bundelkhand's Lok Sabha-47 seat. He defeated former minister Vishambar Prasad Nishad by a margin of 266778 votes and made the lotus bloom on this seat. He got 47.045 percent of the total votes. Pushpendra Singh Chandel also defeated the alliance's BSP candidate Dilip Singh by a margin of 248652 votes in the 2019 general election. Pushpendra Singh Chandel became MP for the second consecutive time by getting 52.77 percent votes. He gave a tough fight to the alliance's SP candidate Ajendra Singh Rajput in the election field to score a hattrick on this seat. This time he can break the 57-year record by scoring a hattrick on this seat.
