Siwach gives India a winning start by defeating Mukuka | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Bangkok, May 25 (HS). National champion Sachin Siwach (57kg) registered an impressive win over New Zealand's Alex Mukuka in the opening round of the second boxing world qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics here on Friday.

Strandja Memorial gold medallist Siwach kept the pressure on his opponent throughout the bout and won by a unanimous 5-0 decision from the judges.

Sachin went on the offensive from the very first round and took control of the match. After winning the first two rounds comfortably, Sachin did not give any chance to his opponent to make a comeback and ended the match soon.

India has fielded seven men and three women boxers in the second World Qualifiers. All the boxers will have to reach at least the semi-finals to have a chance to book their berths for the Paris Olympics.

Indian boxers had a disappointing outing at the last World Qualifiers in March with only 2023 World Championships bronze medallist Nishant Dev able to advance past the preliminary round.

So far, Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) have secured their places in Paris.
