Lahore, May 25 (HS). The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced its 15-member squad for the ICC T20 Men's World Cup 2024 on Friday night. Babar Azam will lead the Pakistani team for the third consecutive time in the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup will be played in the United States and the Caribbean from June 1 to 29.
However the PCB has not announced either the vice-captain or any travelling reserves.
“This is a highly talented and balanced squad with a mix of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time now and look well prepared and settled for next month’s event,” the PCB said in its statement.
Fast bowler Haris Rauf returned to the squad after recovering from a dislocated shoulder suffered during a Pakistan Super League match in February while Hasan Ali, who was called up for the Ireland tour ahead of the World Cup, has been dropped.
The statement further said, “Haris Rauf is fully fit and is bowling well in the nets. It would have been nice if he got a chance to out at Headingley, but we are confident that he will continue to move upwards in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup.”
Pakistan has been placed in Group A along with India, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts United States. The Pakistani team will play its first match against USA on June 6 in Dallas.
