New Delhi, May 22 (HS). The panel led by shooting legend Abhinav Bindra and Dr. Pierre Beauchamp, High-Performance Director (HPD), Indian Shooting Team, addressed the participants on the first day of the five-day (May 20-24) workshop and certification programme. This workshop is being organized on the important role of sports psychologists in the lives of shooting athletes.
The event was organized by the National Center for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR) in collaboration with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range (DKSSR) in the national capital. ), Patiala.
Through a combination of lectures, panel discussions and practical training sessions led by eminent sports scientists, high-performance coaches, shooting champions and administrators, the program will introduce participants to cutting-edge strategies and practical interventions.
Apart from Beijing Olympics gold medalist Bindra and Dr Beauchamp, national shooting coaches Samaresh Jung, Raunak Pandit along with other champion players, coaches and administrators were also present.
The purpose of this certification program is to equip coaches and athletes with the essential mental training tools while recognizing the important role sport psychology plays in the success of shooting athletes. The program aims to address the gap in mental health support for high-performing shooting athletes. Work is also being done to effectively manage psychological barriers, optimize performance on the range and maintain composure under pressure, technically preparing shooters to deliver peak performance during critical moments.
