Neeraj Chopra returns to the national competition with gold |Live Updates,Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Bhubaneswar, May 16 (HS). Olympic gold medalist and world champion Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event at the ongoing Federation Cup on Wednesday night.

Chopra won the gold medal with a best throw of 82.27 metres. Asian Athletics Championships silver medalist DP Manu finished second with a best effort of 82.06m. Uttam Patil won the bronze medal with a throw of 78.39 metres.

However, Asian Games silver medalist Kishore Jena could not achieve a podium finish.

Neeraj started with a throw of 82 meters in the final. However, DP took the lead in his first attempt with a throw of 82.06m.

The Olympic gold medalist's second attempt proved to be a foul, however, he made a good comeback in the third attempt with a throw of 81.29 metres. Although DP Manu was still in the lead.

Neeraj took the lead by throwing a distance of 82.27 meters in his fourth attempt. Manu could not regain his lead and threw 81.47 meters in the fourth attempt and was fouled in the next two attempts. Neeraj decided not to attempt his last two throws and clinched the top prize.

However, Jena was not even in contention for a podium finish during this period, recording one foul and a throw of 75.49m, then two more fouls and then recorded throws of 73.79m and 75.25m respectively.

Uttam started with a throw of 75.55 meters and secured the third podium position after the fifth round.

Neeraj was competing in his second event of the 2024 outdoor athletics season. He started his season at the Doha Diamond League last week and finished second with a throw of 88.36 metres.

This also marks their first appearance in a national-level event after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Their previous appearance at a national event before this was the 2021 Federation Cup in March. He then won the gold medal with a throw of 87.80 meters.
