Pahlavi Aman Sehrawat performed brilliantly in the men's freestyle 57kg category and secured a quota for the Paris Olympics, while Deepak Punia crashed out of the qualification round after a crushing defeat in the first round of the World Qualifiers. Under-23 World Champion and Senior Asian Championship winner Aman was expected to perform well in the 57kg category and the 20-year-old did not disappoint. This saved India from a humiliating defeat, as no male athlete has secured a quota for the Paris Olympics. We won all three of our matches by double digits. In which he won two matches on the basis of technical superiority.
He defeated Jozhi Valentinov 10–4 before defeating Ukraine's Andriy Yatsenko. Yatsenko challenged the Indian pioneer and Aman proved too strong against him. We defeated our opponent and won on the basis of technical superiority. In the semi-finals he defeated Chongsong Han of North Korea by a margin of 12-2.
India's Deepak Punia's first match was against China's Jushen Lin. Despite Deepak taking the lead, he lost 4-6. Punia, the most experienced wrestler of the Indian team, took a 3-0 lead in the first period, after which the Chinese wrestler made a comeback and defeated him.
