Marseille, May 11 (HS). French star footballer Kylian Mbappe will leave French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season. Mbappe confirmed this on Friday, although did not reveal which club he would join after this.
“I wanted to tell you all that this is my last year at Paris Saint-Germain,” Mbappe said in a video posted on social media. I won't push it any further and the thrill will be over in a few weeks. “I will play my last match for the club on Sunday at the Parc des Princes.”
The French international joined PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017 and officially joined the club after the season ended for a transfer fee of 180 million euros.
During his seven years with the team, Mbappé helped the club win six league titles and three French Cup wins, making 306 appearances for the club and scoring 255 goals. He is the top scorer in team history.
“There are a lot of emotions, the opportunity and great honor to become a member of one of the biggest and best clubs in the world in many years,” said the 26-year-old player.
“It allowed me to get here, get my first experience at a club with a lot of pressure, develop as a player, be with some of the best in history, some great champions,” he said. It's hard and I never thought it would be so hard to announce… but I think after seven years I needed a new challenge.”
PSG have already secured this season's Ligue 1 title and reached the French Cup final, where they will compete for the championship against Lyon on May 25.
However, in the Champions League where the team was most keen to make a mark, they suffered another disappointing performance, losing both legs of the semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.
