The United Nations agency International Organization for Migration said that India will receive $ 111 billion in the form of remittances in the year 2022. This is the highest in the world. With this, India has become the first country in the world to touch the $100 billion mark.

In its World Migration Report, 2024 released by the International Organization for Migration, the top five countries receiving remittances in 2022 include India, Mexico, China, Philippines and France.
Remittances refer to money sent by migrants to friends and relatives in the country of origin. It has been said in the report that India has been on top in this matter. It received more than $111 billion, making it the first country in the world to reach or exceed $100 billion. Mexico ranks second in terms of remittances in 2022. It overtook China to take the position in 2021. Earlier, China was historically the second largest recipient of remittances after India.
According to the report data, India also remained on top in terms of remittances in 2010 ($53.48 billion), 2015 ($68.91 billion) and 2020 ($83.15 billion). It received remittances of $111.22 billion in 2022. Three South Asian countries India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were among the top 10 remittance recipients. Pakistan and Bangladesh received remittances of about $30 billion and $21.5 billion respectively in 2022. Pakistan is at sixth place and Bangladesh at eighth place. The report says that the largest number of migrants in the world are also of Indian origin. The total number is about 1.3 percent of the country's total population, or 18 million.
