A man has been arrested for strangulating his wife in a hospital in Independence city of Missouri state, USA. The suspect has been identified as Queenie Wiggs and has been charged with second degree murder.
Rani Wiggs told police that she was unable to afford treatment for her wife. The incident took place at Center Point Medical Center around 11.30 pm on Friday night. Hospital staff contacted an off-duty police officer after a patient was allegedly beaten up in the hospital's ICU.
According to Jackson County Prosecutor Gene Peters Baker, the victim was a woman who was getting a new port for dialysis. The woman was lying in a hospital bed when Queen Wiggs began strangling her. He also reportedly covered the woman's face and nose to prevent her from calling for help. When the police arrived, the victim was unconscious and had no heartbeat. He was still kept on ventilator.
He was later removed from the ventilator with no signs of brain function. Hospital staff reportedly heard Queen Wiggs say, “I did it, I killed him.” I strangled him. Queen Wiggs was arrested and taken into the custody of the Independence Police Department on a charge of first-degree domestic assault. During interrogation, he admitted that his wife was going through the process of getting a new port installed for dialysis.
He also told the police that he was suffering from financial problems and depression due to which he decided to kill his wife. He also admitted that he had tried to kill his wife twice before while she was admitted in the hospital and rehabilitation centre. He is still charged with second-degree murder and must pay a $250,000 fine.
