New Delhi, May 7 (Hindustan Reporter) Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday equaled former franchise captain Rohit Sharma in scoring most centuries for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Suryakumar Yadav achieved this feat in the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In the match, Suryakumar came to bat when Mumbai team was in trouble by losing 3 wickets for 31 runs, Surya took charge from here and scored unbeaten 102 runs in 51 balls with the help of 12 fours and six sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 200.00.
Both Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav have scored two IPL centuries each for Mumbai. Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Lendl Simmons and Cameron Green have scored one century each for Mumbai.
Among Indians, Suryakumar now has the joint-most number of T20 centuries along with Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul.
Additionally, with four centuries, Suryakumar has equaled South Africa's David Miller and Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka for the second most T20 centuries while batting at number four or lower. Australia's Glenn Maxwell leads the list with five centuries while batting at number four or lower. In nine matches this season, Suryakumar has scored 334 runs at an average of 41.75 and strike rate of 176.71, which includes one century and three fifties. His best score is 102*.
Talking about the match, Mumbai won the toss and decided to field first. Hyderabad lost wickets at regular intervals right from the beginning. Hyderabad scored 173 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to the innings of Travis Head (48) and captain Pat Cummins (35*).
While chasing the target, Mumbai team was struggling losing 3 wickets for only 31 runs, from here Suryakumar (102*) and Tilak Verma (37*) batted brilliantly and gave Mumbai victory with 16 balls remaining. Suryakumar won the 'Player of the Match' award.
Mumbai is at ninth position with four wins and eight losses, giving it eight points, while Hyderabad is at fourth position with six wins, five losses and 12 points.
