India's Gulveer Singh has lost his men's 3,000m gold medal by a matter of hours at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran. He went beyond the prescribed limits due to which he was disqualified and stripped of his gold medal. In the final of the 3000 meter race late on Monday night, Gulveer topped the podium with a time of eight minutes 07.48 seconds. After this he was disqualified. The Indian Athletic Federation appealed but the organizers rejected it.
The jury said they had evidence that Gulveer had crossed the limit. It is noteworthy that according to Technical Rule 17.2.3 of Athletics, every athlete has to remain in his designated line from start to finish. While running on the turn, the athlete cannot even step on the track and has to run within the line. Organizers awarded the gold medal to second-place finisher Keneshbekov of Kyrgyzstan.
