The Government of Canada has made a new rule for international students including Indian students. Under this rule, international students can now work outside the college campus only 24 hours a week. Earlier, international students were allowed to work off-campus for no more than 20 hours. This rule will be applicable from September.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Mark Miller said in a press statement Monday that the temporary policy allowing students to work more than 20 hours a week off campus will expire April 30, 2024, and will not be extended, he said. That our aim is to bring down the number of students working off campus to 24 hours a week so that they can focus more on their studies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party-led government temporarily waived the 20-hour work-hour limit for international students during the Covid-19 pandemic to combat labor shortages in the country. It is noteworthy that Canada is one of the most favorite places for Indian students. According to the 2022 report by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), there were 3,19,130 Indian students in Canada. Indians occupy the majority of seats among international students in both colleges and universities located in Canada.
