Asian Games champion Jyoti Surekha Vennam scored a hat-trick of gold medals to take the Indian team to the podium in the first leg of the Archery World Cup being held in Shanghai. World number three archer Jyoti achieved this feat by defeating top seed Andrea Becerra of Mexico in the global tournament by 146-146 (9*-9) in the shootoff. 27-year-old Jyoti won gold medals in the individual, women's team and mixed team events. India made a clean sweep of the team event, winning three golds.
Men's, women's and mixed teams also won gold medals. In the women's compound team event, the women's team of Jyoti, Aditi Swami and Preneet Kaur defeated Italy by the score of 236-225. Men's team's Abhishek Verma, Priyansh and Prathamesh defeated Netherlands with the score of 238-231. The medal round of the recurve event will be played on Sunday and Deepika Kumari is in the race for an individual medal. India is likely to get two gold medals in the archery event at the Paris Olympics.
