Heavy rain over the past few weeks has caused flooding in Tanzania. So far 155 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides. Looking at the current situation due to heavy rains, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kasim Majaliwa has blamed the El Nino climate pattern for this. Heavy rains in Tanzania have caused widespread damage to roads, bridges and railways.
PM Majaliwa said, “The cyclone coupled with heavy El Nino rains has caused floods and landslides in various parts of the country. This has caused a lot of damage.” He blamed unsustainable farming practices for the devastating effects of rainfall. These unsustainable agricultural practices include slash and burn crops, uncontrolled livestock grazing, and deforestation.
More than 20,000 people have been affected by the rain
Tanzania's Prime Minister said that 51,000 houses were damaged due to heavy rains. More than 20,000 people have been affected by this. According to the information, people trapped in the flood are being taken to safe places by emergency services. Schools here have also been closed due to floods. 226 people have also been injured due to the flood. Heavy rain continues in East Africa.
Let us tell you that El Nino is a naturally occurring seasonal phenomenon that causes global warming, increased drought and heavy rainfall. There has been more rain than normal in East Africa these days. Due to this, incidents of floods have also come to light in neighboring countries Burundi and Kenya.
