driving license: If you are old enough to drive a two-wheeler or four-wheeler but you have not yet got your driving license (DL), then get it done immediately. The good thing is that you do not need to visit the RTO office to get a driver's license. Whether you are getting a license for the first time or want to renew an old license, you can apply online from the comfort of your home.

The process of applying for a license may differ slightly from state to state but the main process is almost the same. There are four types of licenses made in India, which are Learning License, Permanent Driving License, Commercial Driving License and International Driving Permit. The process to apply for these may be different.

This is the way to apply online

  • First of all go to the official website of Transport Department https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/.
  • After this go to the Drivers/Learner License section and tap on 'More'.
  • Now select your state and click or tap on 'Apply for Learner License'.
  • Click on 'Continue' after reading the instructions on the screen.
  • Tap on 'Submit via Aadhar Authentication' to apply easily with the help of Aadhar Card.
  • After entering the Aadhaar number, you have to enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  • Enter the information asked on the screen like email ID and phone number and answer the questions related to your health after tapping on the yellow Self Declaration (Form 1) button.

– Now submit the application by uploading the required documents.

To obtain a learner's license sitting at home, 'Online LL Test (STAL)' will have to be given on the Sarathi portal after the stipulated time of submission of application. In this test, questions related to traffic rules are asked and after completion of the stipulated time, if you pass the test then you get the learner's license. This license can be obtained sitting at home, but after this, to get a permanent driving license, one has to go to the RTO office and take a test. The fee to obtain a license may vary from state to state depending on the type of license.
