Lucknow, 27 April (HS). Keeping the Lok Sabha elections in mind, the Model Code of Conduct is being strictly followed. Due to fear of disturbing peace in the state, 21,49,679 people have been banned under CrPC, while notices were given to ban 25,77,725 people.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Saturday that with the announcement of election dates for Lok Sabha general elections on March 16, the Model Code of Conduct is effective in the entire state to conduct free, fair and effective voting.
In compliance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India, action is being taken by Police, Income Tax, Excise, Narcotics and other departments. For intensive checking, 494 inter-state check posts and 1844 check posts are operated within the state. From March 16 to April 26, 2024, 535 licensed weapons were seized from criminal persons by the police department. Licenses of 4683 licensed weapons were canceled and deposited.
Apart from this, police recovered and seized 7897 unlicensed weapons, 8039 cartridges, 2900.32 kg explosives and 426 bombs. Police raided 3342 centers manufacturing illegal weapons and 149 centers were seized.
Under this, on April 26, the police canceled the licenses of six licensed weapons of criminal persons and deposited them. Taking preventive action under CrPC, 26,122 people were banned. Besides, 90 unlicensed weapons, 91 cartridges and 8 bombs were recovered and seized. Police raided 57 centers manufacturing illegal weapons.
