India's pride and American astronaut Sunita Williams is ready to go to space once again. Sunita will embark on her third space journey on May 6 aboard the Starliner spacecraft. He is currently being trained as a Crew Flight Test Mission Pilot on Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.
The Starliner spacecraft will be launched into space with the help of a rocket. The spacecraft will be connected to the International Space Station 400 km above Earth. Apart from Sunita Williams, senior scientist Butch Wilmore has been selected for this mission. Both astronauts will stay in the International Space Station for two weeks.
First know who is Sunita Williams?
Sunita Williams was born on 19 September 1965 in Euclid, Ohio, USA. His father's name is Dr. Deepak Pandya and mother's name is Bonnie Pandya, although he considers Needham, Massachusetts as his real home. In 1987, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in physics. In 1995, he earned a master's degree in engineering management from the Florida Institute of Technology. However, his father is originally from Gujarat.
According to NASA's website, Sunita Williams began her career in the Navy as an officer at the United States Naval Academy in May 1987. After working elsewhere for a few months, he was posted as a diving officer and then joined the Naval Aviation Training Command.
Story from test pilot to astronaut
In July 1989, Sunita became a trained naval aviator, meaning she could now fly helicopters. He was then sent to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 8 in Virginia for training to fly the H46 Seinite helicopter. After completing the training, Sunita got posting abroad.
How were Sunita Williams's initial days at NASA?
In June 1998, Sunita was selected as an astronaut by NASA. He started training in August 1998. There was a lot involved in this training. Like understanding the systems of Space Shuttle and International Space Station, preparing the body for space. Also learned to fly T-38 aircraft. After training, Sunita got a chance to work with the Russian Space Agency in Moscow for a short time.
After this Sunita Williams was a part of the NEEMO2 mission. During this mission she stayed underwater for 9 days in a special place (the abode of Kumbh). After his first space flight, he worked as deputy chief of the Astronaut Office.
Sunita's first two missions to the International Space Station
Sunita Williams served as flight engineer on Expedition 32, the longest mission. Apart from this, she has also been the commander of the International Space Station in another mission 'Expedition 33'. During these two missions, Sunita has spent a total of 322 days in space. He has spent a total of 50 hours and 40 minutes in space (spacewalk). In this case, she is second in the list of female astronauts.
Sunita is currently preparing for a new mission. This will be the first manned mission of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft. He will play the role of pilot in this mission and this will be his third mission to the International Space Station.
