Kanpur, 25 April (HS). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between National Sugar Institute (NSI) Kanpur and Advanta Seeds Hyderabad on Thursday. This will give impetus to the ethanol blended petrol campaign of the Government of India. This MoU is an important step towards a sustainable biofuel option for the future.
According to the MoU, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and Advanta Seeds, Hyderabad will conduct collaborative studies on the use of sweet sorghum and grain sorghum as alternatives to produce alcohol from various grains.
Under this program, production of sweet sorghum in the form of National Sugar Institute, Kanpur will be included and study of its various physical and chemical parameters and the potential of producing bio-ethanol from the juice of sweet sorghum and grain sorghum will be done. In this collaborative research, grain sorghum will also be studied for its beer production potential. This MoU is an important step towards a sustainable biofuel option for the future, in achieving the target of 20 per cent blending of ethanol in petrol in the country under the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme, a campaign of the Government of India. This program is an ambitious project of the Government of India to save international currency and reduce the import of petrol, under which the government is placing a lot of emphasis on achieving the goal.
