Rules for chanting mantra: Mantra chanting is considered very important and beneficial in Hindu religion. However, some rules related to chanting mantras are also mentioned in the scriptures. It is said that one should close the eyes while chanting the mantra. The mantra should not be chanted with open eyes. In such a situation, let us know the reason behind this from astrologer Radhakant Vats.
What happens if you chant a mantra with your eyes closed?
It is said that when we chant a mantra, the divine energy emanating from the mantra is so intense that our body is unable to cope with it. If our eyes are closed while chanting the mantra, our body starts absorbing this energy with concentration.
Keeping eyes open while chanting mantra breaks concentration and creates hindrance in chanting mantra. For this reason, chanting the mantra should always be done with closed eyes. By closing the eyes while chanting the mantra, concentration remains and one starts meditating on God.
By closing our eyes while chanting the mantra, external forces do not pull us towards us and we feel internally and mentally at peace. Keeping the eyes closed while chanting the mantra awakens the senses inside the body and gives the power of bhajan.
It is not easy to meditate by closing the eyes while chanting the mantra because the mind keeps wandering here and there. That is why it is said in the scriptures that before chanting any mantra, Gayatri Mantra 'Om Bhurbhuvah Swah Tatsaviturvarenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat' should be chanted.
This mantra is also known as Sarva Sadhak Mantra which helps in focusing while chanting the mantra. After chanting the mantra, when you open your eyes, put a few drops of water in your mouth before looking at God.
