Bio Agri will have an important contribution in making India self-reliant: Dr. Sanjay Kumar

Lucknow, 12 April (HS). CSIR-NBRI (National Botanical Research Institute), Lucknow organized a special lecture in the memory of its founder Professor Kailash Nath Kaul. On this occasion, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Chairman of the Agricultural Scientist Selection Board of the Department of Agricultural Education and Research of the Ministry of Agriculture, was present as the chief guest.

On this occasion, Dr. Sanjay Kumar said that some sectors are going to have an important contribution towards becoming a self-reliant India in the future. Biopharma, bio-research, bio-industry, bio-agri and bio-IT are prominent in this. Through our efforts in these areas, we will not only help the next generation in making products but will also achieve self-reliance in various fields.

In this context, he faced the challenges in proper use of various bio-resources, especially in ensuring the quantity and quality of bio-resources, proper utilization of land, value addition process, processing and packing and establishing links with the market. Discussed on making appropriate strategies to do so.

On this occasion, he also discussed new beginnings like asafoetida cultivation in India, apple cultivation in North-East, real cinnamon cultivation in Himachal and cultivation of new flowers in ornamental flowers, through which the income of farmers can also increase. On this occasion, while discussing his old relations with the institute, he appealed to the scientists to pay more attention to such research work, the benefits of which can be extended to the general public and industries.

Padmabhushan Professor Kailash Nath Kaul was a great Indian botanist, nature lover and successful agricultural scientist who was very fond of horticulture, wildlife and trees and plants. Pro. It was Kaul who established the National Botanical Garden in the year 1948, which was later changed to CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute in the year 1953. Apart from this, Prof. Kaul also contributed in establishing botanical gardens in various countries outside India like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Philippines etc.
