Lucknow, 12 April (HS). Chief Electoral Officer of the state Navdeep Rinwa said that with the announcement of the dates of Lok Sabha elections by the Election Commission of India on March 16, the process of conducting free, fair, peaceful, fear-free, inducement-free, inclusive and safe voting has started in the state.
He said that with the release of the notification for the third phase of Lok Sabha General Elections-2024 on Thursday, April 12, 2024 (Friday), the nomination process has started. The nomination process can be done between 11 am to 3 pm. Nomination was filed by only one candidate on the first day of the third phase. Durvijay Singh Shakya filed nomination from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Badaun Lok Sabha constituency.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that under the third phase, elections are to be conducted for a total of 10 Lok Sabha constituencies namely Sambhal, Hathras (SC), Agra (SC), Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Awla and Bareilly. Out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in the third phase, eight seats are of general category and two seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. 10 Lok Sabha constituencies of the third phase fall under 12 districts including Moradabad, Sambhal, Hathras, Aligarh, Agra, Etah, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kasganj, Badaun and Bareilly.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that as per the election schedule set by the Election Commission of India, the last date for filing nominations for 10 Lok Sabha seats in the third phase of Lok Sabha General Election-2024 in the state is April 19 (Friday). Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 20th April (Saturday). The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 03 PM on April 22 (Monday). The third phase of voting will be completed on 07 May (Tuesday). Counting of votes in all constituencies of Uttar Pradesh will be done on June 04 (Tuesday). The election process will be completed before June 6. He said that there are 1.89 crore voters in the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies of the third phase, out of which 1.01 crore are male voters and 87.48 lakh are female voters. There are a total of 12339 polling stations and 20415 polling booths in these constituencies.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that for the Lok Sabha General Elections-2024, each general category candidate will have to deposit Rs 25,000 and each SC/ST candidate will have to deposit Rs 12,500. Candidates of national/state parties will require one elector of the constituency as proposer and registered unrecognized political parties and independent candidates will require 10 proposers. The maximum limit of expenditure in the Lok Sabha constituency is fixed at Rs 95 lakh. At the time of nomination, entry of maximum 03 vehicles and maximum 05 persons including the candidate will be allowed within the radius of 100 meters of the office of the Returning Officer/Assistant Returning Officer. Candidates fielded by political parties will have to file Form-A and Form-B by 3 pm on the last date, April 19, 2024.
