Aadhaar card has become an essential document for various purposes, especially for connecting to banking and other services. Even for your KYC procedures, Aadhaar card is often requested. However, many people are unaware that Aadhaar card can also be used to make digital payments. Let us find out how people can benefit from this facility.
What is this payment system?
Through Aadhaar card, you can not only withdraw money but also transfer funds to others. This system is facilitated through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) developed by NPCI. If your bank account is linked to your Aadhar card then you can use this service. AEPS is a bank-based model that allows financial transactions through bank correspondents or bank mitras.
How the system works:
This payment system is quite secure as it does not require any bank details. You only need to link your Aadhar card with your bank account. Also, your mobile number should also be linked to your Aadhaar. Similar to UPI, the system operates through Aadhaar authentication, which allows you to withdraw or transfer money using any micro-ATM or mobile device. No PIN or OTP is required.
To avail this service, you have to visit a banking correspondent who has an OPOS machine. After verifying your biometric transaction using fingerprint verification they will give you a chance to use the required service like cash withdrawal or transfer etc. This enables you to benefit from services like balance enquiry, cash withdrawal or fund transfer without the need of an ATM card.
