More than four lakh beggars on the streets of Karachi during Ramadan, crime graph increases

During the month of Ramzan, beggars leave small towns and villages of Pakistan and come in droves towards Karachi. Amidst the chaos created by the increase in the number of beggars in Karachi, the crime graph has also increased. Karachi Police Officer Imran Yaqoob Minhas highlighted this worrying situation. He said that three to four lakh beggars reach Karachi by Eid. Due to this, Karachi city has become a den of beggars and criminals. Authorities have been appealed to install CCTV cameras as traditional equipment makes it difficult to monitor crimes. An estimate of the current situation in Karachi is that 19 people have lost their lives in criminal incidents during Ramzan.

High Court had to give time for peace

The situation worsened to such an extent that the Sindh High Court had to order the authorities to restore peace and order in Karachi within a month. Justice Abbasi clearly told the officials that decisive action should also be taken against influential persons involved in violating the peace process. The court has sought a comprehensive report from the authorities on the law and order situation. Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Sindh DGP Ghulamnabi Memon said that maintaining peace and order in Karachi is challenging given the crime on the roads and streets. The DGP has assured the Sindh High Court that the police will soon control the crimes.
