New Delhi, April 11 (Hindustan Reporter) Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill completed 3,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday.
Young batsman Gill reached this milestone during the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Chasing the target of 197 runs in the match, Gill scored 72 runs in 44 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes, his runs came at a strike rate of more than 163.
Now, in 97 IPL matches and 94 innings, Gill has scored 3,045 runs at an average of 39.04 and a strike rate of over 135. He has three centuries and 20 fifties in his IPL career, with a best score of 129. He is the 24th highest run scorer in IPL history.
Gill also represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2018–21. In 58 matches for KKR, he scored 1,417 runs in 55 innings with 10 fifties at an average of 31.49 and a strike rate of 123.00. His best score for KKR was 76 runs.
The 24-year-old player had his best IPL season last season. In 17 matches, he scored 890 runs at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of over 157, including three centuries and four fifties. His best score was 129. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament.
In six IPL matches this season, Gill has scored 255 runs at an average of 51.00 and a strike rate of over 151 with two half-centuries. His best score is 89*. He is the third highest run scorer so far in the IPL this year.
Talking about the match, Rajasthan, batting first, scored 20 runs thanks to the half-centuries of captain Sanju Samson (68 runs not out, 38 balls, 7 fours, 2 sixes) and Ryan Parag (76 runs from 48 balls, 3 fours, 5 sixes). Scored 196 runs for 3 wickets in the over.
In reply, Gujarat won by scoring 199 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Shubman Gill played a brilliant inning of 72 runs for Gujarat. Apart from Gill, Rashid Khan also played an important role in his team's victory by scoring 24 runs in 11 balls.
