Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan recently got married for the third time with his foreign-born friend Gauri Spratt in a very simple manner. This third marriage of Aamir, which took place after divorce from Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, has now created a new and big controversy. While on one hand Muslim religious leaders have opened a front regarding this marriage, on the other hand sharp reactions are also coming from political circles.
Mufti’s big decision: Called marriage ‘illegitimate’
Royal Chief Mufti of Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, Maulana Ifrahim Hussain has issued a fatwa regarding the marriage of Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt. Maulana Ibrahim Hussain said in clear words that according to the rules of Islam and Shariat, it is completely illegitimate and haram for any Muslim man to marry a non-Muslim woman without converting her religion. He said that whoever does this is a criminal in the eyes of Shariat. Mufti has appealed that people should respect religious teachings, because such decisions send a wrong message to the society and give a bad name to Islam.
Political rhetoric intensifies: Brand ambassador of ‘Love Jihad’?
Along with religious opposition, the political color in this matter has also deepened. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat directly targeted Aamir Khan and even called him the brand ambassador of ‘Love Jihad’. Shirsat says that even though Aamir is a big star, a person who has been married thrice cannot rule people’s hearts. At the same time, BJP leader and Maharashtra minister Nitish Rane has also strongly criticized this marriage of Aamir Khan. He has further increased the controversy by terming this third marriage as a chapter of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’.
