Remedies for Somvati Amavasya

1. After taking bath on this day, remember your ancestors and offer water to them. Use black sesame, white flowers and kusha in tarpan. By offering tarpan, the ancestors are satisfied and they become happy and give blessings. By his grace, lineage, wealth, happiness and prosperity increase.
2. On this day Lord Shiva is worshiped with full rituals. On this day, while chanting the mantra Om Namah Shivay, offer 21 Madar or Aak flowers to Mahadev. Anoint Shivlinga with Belpatra, milk and curd and pray to Lord Shiva to remove Pitra Dosh.
3. On this day, offer water to the Peepal tree and light a lamp in the evening and sit under the Peepal tree and recite Pitra Sukta, this pleases the ancestors and poverty is eradicated.
4. Feed flour mixed with sugar to the ants on this day. By doing this your sinful deeds will be destroyed and your virtuous deeds will increase. These sacred acts will help you fulfill your wishes.
5. On this day, the ancestors are pleased by feeding food to cows, crows and dogs. Give green fodder to cows and flour pellets to fishes.
6. On this day, one should donate clothes, food, fruits, sesame seeds etc. to the poor as per their capacity.
7. People who have Kaal Sarp Dosh in their horoscope should worship a snake made of silver on the day of Somvati Amavasya. After this they should be offered on Shivalinga.
8. If there is Pitra Dosh in the horoscope, then photos of your dead relatives should be placed on the south-west wall of the house, they should be garlanded and they should be worshiped and praised daily. By doing this one gets relief from Pitrudosh.
