Even modern science seems to have completely bowed down to the glory and miracles of this temple, which is considered to be the Mahapeeth among the 51 Shaktipeeths. Kamakhya Temple is considered to be the biggest center of Tantric Sadhana, where every year lakhs of devotees and Aghori gather for Tantric Sadhana. There are some surprising and supernatural secrets related to this holy temple, knowing which everyone is stunned. In this great pilgrimage of Tantra and Shakti, a flood of faith rises which is not seen anywhere else in the world.

Mystery 1: There is no idol in the temple, worship is done in the form of vagina.

The first and biggest secret of Kamakhya Devi Temple is that there is no traditional idol of Mata Durga or any other goddess installed in the sanctum sanctorum of this grand temple. There is a natural cave inside the temple, where a vaginal-shaped natural partition is formed in the middle of a flat rock. This vaginal form is considered to be the actual form of Mother Sati and worshiped. A stream of water always flows from the middle of this rock like a natural spring. Devotees touch this sacred water stream and consume it considering it to be the main nectar of the Mother’s feet.

Mystery 2: The doors remain closed for 3 days in a year, the mother actually menstruates.

The second and most miraculous secret of the temple is that the mother has menstruation period every year. According to mythological beliefs and religious traditions, Mata Kamakhya is in menstrual cycle for three days in the month of June. During this special period the doors of the temple are completely closed for devotees and priests. No one is allowed inside the temple during these three days. This is the only temple in the world where this human and feminine law of nature is worshiped at such a supreme and sacred level.

Mystery 3: Water of Brahmaputra river turns red, Ambubachi fair begins

When Mata Kamakhya menstruates for three days, the water of the life-giving Brahmaputra River of Assam flowing near the temple turns completely red. It is believed that the color of the river changes due to the flow coming out of the mother’s sanctum sanctorum. This supernatural period is called ‘Ambubachi’, and during this time the world famous ‘Ambubachi Mela’ is organized here. Thousands of Tantra practitioners, Naga Sadhus and Aghori from India and abroad camp on Nilanchal mountain during this period and awaken their secret achievements. When the doors of the temple open on the fourth day, miles long lines form for the darshan of the Mother Goddess.

Mystery 4: ‘Ambubachi Vastra’, a red cloth stained with blood, is found in the Prasad.

The fourth biggest secret of Kamakhya temple is its unique offerings. When the doors of the temple are opened after three days, a red cotton cloth is given as prasad to the devotees instead of any sweets or fruits. This special cloth is called ‘Ambubachi Vastra’ or ‘Angodak Vastra’. According to tradition, before closing the doors, white cotton clothes are placed near the vaginal form of the Mother, and when the doors are opened after three days, those clothes become completely red with the blood of the Mother. Devotees have an unwavering belief that by keeping this red cloth in the safe of their house or at the place of worship, all the troubles of life go away and happiness and prosperity reside.
