Moscow: After the flood in the Ural River in Russia, a large number of people got trapped in their homes due to the flooding of nearby villages. A dam has also collapsed due to excessive water pressure.
The provincial government has safely evacuated two thousand people from the Osark region on Saturday. This area is adjacent to the border with Kazakhstan.
According to Orsk Mayor Vasily Kozupitsa, more than 2,400 residential buildings were flooded and power supply was disrupted in many areas. Rescue and relief work is still going on. On Saturday, the water in the dam reached a height of 9.3 meters (30.51 feet). 4000 people have been rescued from the Ural mountain region. It is unclear whether this number includes the 2,000 people rescued from Orsk.
It is noteworthy that the length of Ural River is 2428 km. Russia's investigative committee has started investigating the dam breach. The Russian government has declared a federal emergency in flood-hit areas of the Orenburg region. According to the local government, more than 4,000 people, including 885 children, have been evacuated due to the rise in the water level of the Ural River. With water entering more than 2000 houses, the number of flood affected houses has increased to 6300. Russia's Emergency Affairs Minister visited flood-affected areas and reviewed the rescue operations.
