According to the scriptures, no fast is considered complete until its authentic story is heard or read. The glory of this fast was described by Lord Shri Krishna himself to Dharmaraja Yudhishthir during the Mahabharata period.

When Yudhishthir asked Lord Krishna about the significance of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Adhikamas, then Shri Krishna told him this story:

Sumedha’s life was being spent in poverty.

In ancient times, in the city of Kampilya Sumedha There lived a very simple and religious Brahmin named. His wife was also very devoted, religious and of a calm nature. Both of them were living their lives in extreme poverty and distress. The situation was such that many times they did not even get a full meal. Despite this, Sumedha’s wife never complained. Despite being hungry herself, she welcomed the guests who came to her house with full respect and left no stone unturned in serving them.

When my wife stopped me from going abroad

One day, saddened by his plight, Sumedha said to his wife, “Brahmin! We are not able to survive on this little income. It would be better for me to go abroad (to another state) to earn money.”

Hearing this, his wise wife said in a very calm voice, “Swami! A person gets results according to his destiny and the deeds of his previous birth. If sorrow is written in our destiny at this time, then no matter where we go, it will not leave us. Therefore, you stay here, whatever is the will of the Lord, it will happen.” Hearing this deep and satisfying thing from his wife, Sumedha gave up the idea of ​​going abroad.

Arrival of sage Kaundinya and solution to poverty

After some time, one day by their fate the Supreme Being arrived at their house. Kaundinya Rishi Come. Sumedha and his wife served the sage selflessly beyond their capacity. Sage Kaundinya was extremely pleased with his high conduct and spirit of service. Then the Brahmin couple folded their hands in front of the sage and prayed for some way to get rid of their poverty.

Sage Kaundinya smiled and said, “This poverty of yours will be destroyed only in the Krishna Paksha of Adhikamaas.” Parma Ekadashi Can only fast.
