A long time of two and a half decades i.e. 25 years has passed since the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state. The youth of this land rich in water, forests and land had dreamed of a separate state movement with the hope that they would get respect and better employment opportunities in their own state. But from diplomatic and administrative point of view, the ground reality even today remains very worrying. Even today the youth of the state have to wait a long and tiring for government jobs and permanent employment. Thousands of sanctioned posts are lying vacant in various important departments of the state government, but the pace of recruitment examinations for them is very slow. Regarding this big and sensitive issue of employment, now the main opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an all-out and scathing attack against the government of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, which has once again raised the political temperature in the state.
Thousands of posts are lying vacant in various government departments, appointments are stuck in files.
According to the data coming out from the administrative corridors of Jharkhand and various staff selection commissions, posts are lying vacant on a large scale in key sectors like Education Department, Home Department (Police Recruitment), Health Department and Revenue Department for a long time. Despite the issuance of notifications for many examinations, either they get entangled in the courts, or remain pending due to disputes regarding their recruitment rules. Lakhs of educated unemployed youth of the state are preparing for competitive examinations by staying in the lodges and libraries of Ranchi for years, but due to non-release of final merit list and serious controversies like examination paper leak, their age limit is coming to an end, due to which an atmosphere of great frustration and disappointment is being seen among the youth.
Opposition’s sharp attack on Hemant government, said- promises made in elections turned out to be completely hollow
Regarding this burning issue, the opposition leaders have prepared a strategy to corner the government. Spokespersons of BJP and its allies took a sharp dig at the employment claims of the government and said that the populist and big promise made by the present government of providing five lakh jobs to the youth every year has proved to be completely paper and hollow. The opposition alleges that the government is running the work only through contracts and outsourcing, whereas its intentions in carrying out regular reinstatement are not clear. Opposition leaders have warned that they will fight this battle for the rights of the youth not only within the Assembly, but from the streets to the House with full strength and will expose this tortoise move of the government in front of the public.
The anger of the youth of Jharkhand is visible from social media to the streets.
This dispute over employment and examinations not being conducted on time is no longer limited to offices only. Everyday hashtags like #JharkhandEmployment and #JSSC_Exam are being trended by the youth of Jharkhand on social media platforms, where they are expressing their pain. Many times, various student organizations have taken to the streets of Ranchi and held peaceful marches and digital protests. The youth clearly say that they do not want the promise of election promises or assurances, but they want the conduct of examinations in a transparent manner and the joining letter (appointment letter) within the time limit. This growing dissatisfaction of the youth can prove to be a big turning point for any political party in the coming elections.
Government engaged in damage control, strict instructions to officers to speed up recruitment process
Sensing the increasing pressure from the opposition and the huge anger of the youth, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also seems to be in full action mode. Chief Minister Hemant Soren recently held a high-level review meeting with top officials of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). In this meeting, the Chief Minister has given clear instructions that all the technical and legal hurdles coming in the recruitment processes should be removed immediately. The government claims that they are completely serious about the future of the youth and very soon a mega campaign of transparent appointments will be started on a large scale in the state, so that the trust of the youth can be won. Now it remains to be seen how soon the effect of these strict instructions of the government is visible on the ground.
