Amidst the ongoing tension and war situation in West Asia, a big and relief news has come to light for India. 10 Indian sailors held hostage in Iran since July 2025 last year have finally been released safely. India’s DG Shipping confirmed that all these sailors were in Iranian jail after the ‘MV Harbor Phoenix’ tanker was caught near Jask port.
Due to the very precise and strong diplomacy of the Indian Government, the safe return of these sailors to their homeland has been possible. This success of India is also being considered historic because after the horrific attacks by America and Israel on February 28 this year, Iran has imposed strict restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. This is the same sea route from where India imports almost half of its crude oil needs.
Clouds of war loom again in the Gulf: Iran gives open warning to America
Amidst this release of Indian sailors, geopolitical tension in the Gulf region has once again reached its peak. On May 26, Iran directly accused Washington of violating the ceasefire over air strikes carried out at night. Iran has adopted a very aggressive stance and warned that it is fully prepared to give a befitting reply to these American attacks. After this statement of Iran, the fear of a big war has once again deepened in this entire region.
Boat burns in smoke near Hormuz, death of an Indian creates panic
This release has come at a time when recently a tragic accident had also come to light near Hormuz. A wooden commercial boat carrying goods suddenly caught fire and capsized in the sea. There were 18 members of the Indian crew on board this boat. In this tragic accident, one Indian sailor died on the spot, while four others were badly burnt.
The fortunate thing was that after this accident, another ship passing by showed promptness and saved the remaining 17 members of the Indian crew safely. This entire incident happened on the same strategic route where military tension between Iran and America is continuously increasing. Let us tell you that the Strait of Hormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is the world’s most important sea route, through which a large part of the global oil supply passes.
Indians are burning in the fire of West Asia conflict
This is not the first incident when the lives of Indian citizens have been in danger in this area. At least eight Indian citizens have lost their lives so far in this fierce and prolonged conflict in West Asia, while dozens of other Indians have been seriously injured across the region. Amidst such adverse and war-like circumstances, safely bringing out 10 Indians from Iran’s jail is being considered a huge diplomatic success of the Modi government at the international level.
