Coolie New Price: After increasing the facilities of porters working in Railways, now the Railway Board has ordered to increase their remuneration. In view of rising inflation, the old demand of porters to increase freight charges has been fulfilled. Apart from this, many facilities are also being given to them in advance like railway employees.
A senior railway official said that the fare of porters for carrying goods has been increased after about five years. It will be implemented in 68 divisions across the country.
The official said that if the weight is more than 40 kg, the railway passenger will have to pay at the rate of Rs 340 instead of Rs 250. At the same time, for taking elderly and sick people on wheel chair, they will have to pay Rs 180 instead of Rs 130.
The rate for a sick person on a stretcher has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 270. These porter rates will be applicable at major railway stations (A1 and A category) across the country. At the same time, rates will be lower at smaller railway stations. Railway passengers can complain to the station master if they demand more than the fixed rate. The official said that increasing the rates of porters will bring economic benefits.
It is noteworthy here that keeping social security in mind, Railway Board has started facilities like free medical facility, study, train boarding etc. for porters. Porters and their families can get free treatment at the hospital. In this, Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana card holders can avail this facility.
