New Delhi: Mahindra Thar is one of the best selling off-road SUVs in the country. The company has been working on a 5-door version of the Thar for more than two years. It has also been seen several times during testing on Indian roads. Mahindra may unveil the Thar 5-door on August 15. Let us know about it.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door
For the 5-door version, Mahindra has increased the wheelbase, allowing the company to add a set of rear doors. This will help in increasing the practicality of the SUV as it will provide ease of entry and exit for the rear passengers. Additionally, the door handles have been placed on the C-pillars to give the SUV a three-door look.

Previous spy shots have revealed that the Thar 5-door design will be updated. There will be a new set of circular headlights which will now be LED units and new daytime running lamps will also be introduced. Apart from this, it will also have a new grill and a new set of LED tail lamps. There is also a possibility that Mahindra will offer the 5-door Thar with a metal top which is fixed. The 3-door Thar is offered with a convertible soft top and fixed hard top. There will be a new set of alloy wheels on the sides.

The spy shots reveal that the SUV will come with a new touchscreen infotainment system, which debuted with the XUV400 Pro. It will also likely have an automatic climate control system and an electric sunroof. The steering wheel will also be new and will be shared with the Scorpio N.
Engine and performance
Talking about powertrain, Thar 5-door will come with petrol as well as diesel powertrain. The petrol unit is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, while the diesel engine is a 2.2-litre unit. Both the engines will come with 6-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It is expected that the company will introduce rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive powertrains in it.
