New Delhi, March 30 (Hindustan Reporter) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have included fast bowler Matt Henry in their team in place of David Willey. Willey had withdrawn from the start of this year's IPL 2024 due to personal reasons, but now he has withdrawn from the entire tournament. The league gave the above information on Saturday.
After spending the last two seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore, England left-arm pacer Willey was bought by LSG for his base price of Rs 2 crore in the mini-auction in Dubai last year. Willey had represented Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Multan Sultans in the ILT20 and PSL respectively before the IPL. Earlier, Willey was in India, where he played the World Cup.
Henry, who was bought by LSG for Rs 1.25 crore, is entering the IPL after successful performances in the home Test matches against South Africa and Australia. Earlier, he was his team's third-highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup, where he took 11 wickets at an average of 28.63.
Overall, Henry has played 131 T20s, where he has taken 151 wickets. But only two of those matches have previously come in the IPL, which he played for Kings XI Punjab in 2017. He bowled five overs in those matches, and managed to take only one wicket.
Henry had also put his name up for this season's auction, but he was not sold. He has previously been a part of the Chennai Super Kings team, although he did not get a chance to represent it.
