Bengaluru, March 30 (Hindustan Reporter) After winning the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer said that the pitch was not providing any help to the bowlers, hence his bowlers bowled slow.
KKR defeated RCB by seven wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. With this win, KKR also became the first team to register a win away from home in this IPL.
Shreyas Iyer played an unbeaten inning of 39 runs with the help of two fours and two sixes in 24 balls at a strike rate of 162.5.
Iyer said after the match, “Coming here, after those two sessions of practice, we were in a better position than the last match. Hit a few balls while batting, felt comfortable inside. The way Russell came in and realized that the wicket was not helping the bowler much and bowling slower was working, he did the same. At the same time, when Narine comes to open, he knows that he has only one job and that is to hit over the infield.”
Iyer further said that he does not have much expectations from the team at this time as it is the beginning of the tournament.
He said, “Today we were debating whether to start with Narine or not, but he did a fantastic job. It was good to bat from one end. There were two speeds from the other end. That was the communication we had between them. Will spend a day in Bengaluru and then go to Vizag. I am not expecting much at the moment – it is just the beginning of the tournament. Want to enjoy each other’s success and that’s the plan for now.”
Talking about the match, RCB, batting first in the match, scored 182 for 6 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to the excellent half-century innings of Virat Kohli (83 not out) and the explosive innings of Dinesh Karthik (20 runs, 8 balls, 3 sixes) in the end. Scored runs.
In reply, KKR scored 47 runs off 22 balls, 2 fours and 5 sixes, Venkatesh Iyer (50 runs off 30 balls, 3 fours and 4 sixes) and captain Shreyas Iyer (39 runs not out, 24 balls, 2 fours and 2 sixes).
