“UN is pleased to launch a new database to record crimes against peacekeepers and hold perpetrators accountable,” Ruchika Kamboj said in a post on social media platform X.
The database is designed to act as an online repository. Sponsored by India, this database is hosted on the Unite Aware platform. In this meeting, Ruchika Kamboj highlighted the progress of GOF in the last year. GOF was established in 2022. It was initiated by India during its Presidency of the United Nations Council to promote accountability for crimes against Blue Hamlets. GOF is co-chaired by India, Bangladesh, Egypt, France, Morocco and Nepal. 40 other countries are also included in this.
Another meeting of the GOF was held on Tuesday to discuss strategies to strengthen the legal framework against criminals targeting peacekeepers. Professor Bimal Patel, distinguished member of the International Law Commission and Vice Chancellor of National Defense University, gave his opinion on the subject.
