Addressing a press conference, Jaishankar said he had a good discussion with his counterpart Enrique Manalo in Manila. He further said, “I use this opportunity to reiterate India's support to the Philippines in maintaining its national sovereignty. Every country has the absolute right to maintain and enforce its sovereignty. This is what we discussed.”
Relations with Philippines are getting closer: Jaishankar
Addressing a press conference, Jaishankar said that we are not only an important maritime nation, but we are the two ends of the Indo-Pacific. Not exactly extremes, but the Philippines is somewhere in between. Every country has an interest in maritime security, but in our case it is greater than that of many other countries.
He further said, “Now that our relations are getting closer, it is natural that we will work further in the field of defense and security. It is also important that we pay attention to other aspects of cooperation. And the basis for part recap is Singapore.”
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that last year naval exercises were started between the two countries. He further said that bilateral relations between India and the Philippines have deepened in recent times.
