Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has launched a scathing attack on Apple. In Joe Rogan’s podcast, Zuckerberg alleged that Apple has stopped working on new ideas and is only making money from the success of the iPhone. He said,

“Steve Jobs launched the iPhone, and Apple has relied on it for 20 years.”

“No significant changes in the new iPhone”

Zuckerberg said that there is nothing special new in the new version of iPhone, which would motivate users to buy it. The Meta CEO also believes that Apple is charging more money from app developers to meet the declining sales of iPhone. Apple has imposed a 30% commission tax on developers, which according to Zuckerberg is not fair.

“Apple disrupts connection technology”

Zuckerberg accused Apple of not allowing devices from other companies to work properly with the iPhone.

  • Giving the example of AirPods, he said that if Apple had kept the connection technology open, there would have been better competing devices than AirPods in the market.
  • Zuckerberg says that Apple is maintaining its hold on the market by limiting its technology, which hinders innovation.

Apple cornered on VR headset

Zuckerberg also raised questions about the price and quality of Apple’s new VR headset Vision Pro.

  • He said the $3,500 Vision Pro isn’t even as good as Meta’s cheaper VR headset.
  • However, Zuckerberg acknowledged that Apple can improve over time and that the next version of Vision Pro may be better than before.

“Apple may be out of the game”

Zuckerberg said that when Meta tried to make Ray-Ban smart glasses work better with the iPhone, Apple blocked it using security reasons.

  • He said that Apple is lagging behind in the race of innovation.
  • Zuckerberg claims,

“Apple may be out of the game, and someone will beat it.”

Are Zuckerberg’s allegations justified?

Zuckerberg’s criticism raises questions about Apple’s long-held strategies.

  • Apple’s “walled garden” model has helped it maintain a strong hold on the iPhone and other products, but it has also been criticized.
  • Apple has also been in controversies in the past for charging 30% commission from app developers.
