As the Delhi Assembly elections are approaching, politics has become heated regarding a bungalow which was used by Arvind Kejriwal when he was the Chief Minister. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named it ‘Sheesh Mahal’, and now after the leak of the CAG report on it, the opposition has intensified its criticism. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also made a sharp satire on this issue, making it a topic of discussion at the national level.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s satire: ‘Make Sheeshmahal a museum’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while talking to journalists, took a dig at Kejriwal’s bungalow. He said, “I have seen the mohalla clinics of Delhi, now I want to see Sheeshmahal. It should be declared a national museum.” Sarma also suggested that Chief Ministers across the country should be allowed to visit this bungalow so that they can see and learn from it.

He quipped, “Can we build the Chief Minister’s bungalow in Assam by copying Sheeshmahal?” Sarma described it as the only thing in Delhi that one feels like seeing.

‘From Mohalla Clinic to Sheeshmahal’: Comment on Delhi

Himanta said in his comment that the experience of visiting mohalla clinics in Delhi was disappointing. He thought it was like Taj Mahal, but when he went and saw there was nothing special. “Kejriwal has built only one thing worth seeing in Delhi, and that is Sheesh Mahal.” He appealed to keep this bungalow open for other Chief Ministers also.

Sharp rhetoric between Kejriwal and Sarma

There has been a war of words between Arvind Kejriwal and Himanta Biswa Sarma on several occasions before. Both the leaders do not hesitate to attack each other through social media and public forums. Now, this controversy may gain more momentum ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Himanta Biswa Sarma can be included among the star campaigners of BJP, due to which every effort will be made to take electoral advantage of this controversy.

Increasing politics before elections

The growing controversy over this bungalow in Delhi seems to be becoming a part of the election strategies. BJP has made preparations to corner Arvind Kejriwal by making it an issue of corruption and wastage of public money.
