Lahore: A 30-year-old man from India crossed over to Pakistan illegally to get married after becoming friends on Facebook. He was later arrested and is currently in jail.

The woman told the local police that she did not want to marry him. Badal Babu, from Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested last week in Mandi Bahauddin district of Pakistan’s Punjab province (240 km from Lahore) on charges of entering the country illegally.

Babu crossed the border illegally to marry one of his Facebook friends. Babu recorded the statement of 21-year-old Sana Rani, a Facebook friend. The girl said that she did not want to marry Babu.

Punjab Police officer Naseer Shah said that in her statement to the police, Sana Rani had said that Babu and she were friends on Facebook for the last two and a half years. But she does not want to marry him.

He said that Babu crossed the border illegally and reached Mong village of Sana Rani of Mandi Bahauddin. Where the law enforcement agency arrested him.

When he was asked whether Babu had met the queen? A police officer said he could not confirm this.

It has also not been independently confirmed whether Rani was under any pressure when she gave her statement to the police and refused to marry Babu.

After the arrest, Babu narrated his love story to the police. Babu has been arrested under sections 13 and 14 of Pakistan’s Foreigners Act as he arrived in Pakistan without a legal travel document.

After this he was presented in the court. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. Further hearing of the case will be held on January 10.
