Mumbai/New Delhi, 23 November (HIST). In a major action, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a suspect with 3496 grams of cocaine at Mumbai Airport. The estimated value of this cocaine in the illegal market is around Rs 34.96 crore.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement issued on Saturday that a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a Liberian citizen coming from Sierra Leone at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on November 22. During examination of the passenger’s trolley bag, DRI officials found that it was unusually heavy, upon further investigation, two packets were found, one containing a white powdery substance, which was cleverly hidden in the false bottom of the trolley bag.
According to DRI, field tests confirmed that the substance was cocaine, with a total weight of 3496 grams, with an estimated illicit market value of around Rs 34.96 crore. That passenger has been arrested. The agency said further investigation is underway. DRI is committed to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and keeping our citizens safe from the menace of narcotics.
